A little bit of background:

Edward and Marjory Leung have long been wine and food buffs and established their own Pinot Noir vineyard on Lake Ferry Road, just south of the Martinborough village in 1995. Extending their plantings in 1998, they produced their first Leung Estate wine from the 2003 vintage. The vineyard is 3.24 ha and has eight clones of Pinot Noir planted, Abel, 114, 115, 667, 777, 113, 10/5, plus a tiny amount of Mariafeld. A small amount of Mendoza clone Chardonnay completes the vineyard. The vines are high density planted, at 0.9 m by 1.2 m and cane pruning to Guyot with 8-10 buds per vine aims for low yields and high quality. Insecticides are not used, with sulphur the preferred treatment, and sprays are only applied if necessary. Glenys Hanson tends to the viticulture and Wendy Potts came on board as winemaker for 2014 after the initial decade of wines were made by Chris Buring, who has since retired. The wines to date have shown high quality and character, and this will no doubt continue, if not increase.
