Next Tuesday at Point Wines, we welcome Ben Glover, winemaker at Zephyr wines.
You may not have heard of Zephyr before, however Ben Glover has quite an impressive wine CV.
Ben until recently was Group Winemaker for Accolade New Zealand, prior to that he was chief winemaker and director of winemaking for Wither Hills, Lindauer, Huntaway & Corbans. He also held the prestigious role of Chairman for world renown Pinot Noir 2017 conference held in Wellington this year.
Within the industry Ben is highly respected and recognised as one of the industry's top innovative wine talents. On top of this he is and all round good bloke with great charisma together with a very engaging persona. A perfect combination for an entertaining and educational tasting.
Zephyr is the brand of Glover Family Vineyards, the wine venture of Ben's parents, Owen and Wendy Glover who established the vineyards in the Dillons Point sub-region in 1985. The vineyards were planted in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling, the Glovers adding Gewurztraminer in 1991, and more recently Pinot Gris.
Up until 2007 all the fruit was going into some of Marlboroughs top labels. Ben had always wanted to take the best of the fruit from the family vineyards and make their own wine. So in 2007 the Zephyr wines were born.
The volumes are very small, the fruit handpicked with wild ferments and the philosophy behind the wine style is all about texture and balance.
Zephyr wines until recently have focused sales on export and have received high acclaim from all over the world and now we are very excited to present these wines to you next Tuesday.
The kitchen staff will be busy matching delicious canapes to compliment the wines.
