Rockburn Tasting 4th October

Rockburn Tasting 4th October

$40.00

Join us next Wednesday the 4th of October for our Rockburn Tasting.

Rockburn, an iconic Central Otago producer especially known for his Pinot Noir with a considerable pedigree. Consistently rated year after year as one of the top Pinot's in the country.

There, the region shares a climate similar to that of the spiritual home of Pinot Noir being Burgundy in France. Grapes are all handpicked and exhibit strong varietal characteristics. Rockburn's outstanding record is not only confined to their headlining Pinot Noir, but extends throughout the entire portfolio, including a range of delicious white varieties taking advantage of their ideal climatic conditions.

Established in 1991 by Dunedin surgeon Dick Bunton, Rockburn won gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards for its very first Pinot release, and from that point on there has been no looking back.

Malcolm Rees-Francis, solo winemaker at Rockburn, started as a farmer, then moved on to scientist to finally discover his true vocation, that of a winemaker. Finding out that his Great-Great-Great-Grandfather was from a winegrowing family in the Azores re-affirmed his career choice.

Malcolm started in the wine industry as Assistant Winemaker at the famed Felton Road winery. Quite a stepping stone! Malcolm has always been thriving for excellence and his philosophy is quite simple: Respect the fruit, listen to what it is trying to say and help it to do that. Don't manipulate or use finings; the aim is to produce harmonious wines that reflect their unique terroir.
